Free access to NRS DatabasesEffective June 1, 2008 Maritime Law Book will provide free access to over 215,000 cases in our 12 databases that cover every common law jurisdiction in Canada plus the House of Lords and Privy Council (U.K.).No registration is required. And the databases are searchable. Free access is limited to the judgment without a headnote. Also the free access does not include the MLB Key Number System. Existing subscribers will continue to have access to our time saving headnote material at existing prices. And note that all users will now have access to all 215,000 cases. Access to the B.C.T.C. and O.T.C. databases will be free, including those cases that have been assigned key numbers. The 12 databases include an estimated 17,000 cases from the 1960s and the 1970s that are not on CANLII.
Ontario Trial Cases (O.T.C.) and British Columbia Trial Cases (BCTC)In 2008, Maritime Law Book (MLB), via its free "Raw Law" service ( www.rawlaw.ca ), began offering trial decisions of the Ontario Superior Court and the British Columbia Supreme Court for free. Around the same time, MLB stopped adding key number references to those cases due to the volume of the decisions from those courts. Therefore, to find cases from these two courts, users of the National Reporter System or Raw Law should search by key word(s) instead of MLB's key numbers. Note that the citations of all future O.T.C. and B.C.T.C. cases will be for example: [2008] B.C.T.C. Uned. 466 or [2008] O.T.C. Uned. 42. This change does not affect searching other MLB databases by key number.
New Look for Web SiteMLB would like to announce the launch of our updated web site. Our site has a new look and the Key Number Search has been streamlined to facilitate quicker searching. Should you experience any difficulties using the new site or have any comments, please contact us at 1-800-561-0220 or e-mail service@mlb.nb.ca.
