A new beginning for Maritime Law Book
In August 2016, Maritime Law Book Ltd. announced that the company would shortly cease operations. However, the company's operations were sold on November 1, 2016. The original site was decommissioned on January 30, 2017.
Details of the acquisition and plans to re-launch Maritime Law Book were published on the MLB.NB.CA site as well as in the legal trade press.
We worked hard to minimize disruption to existing clients during November as the original MLB team retired and the new team assumed responsibilities. A new platform - called Compass by Maritime Law Book - launched in December and went through extensive testing by an invited group from across the country. Throughout December, over 130 lawyers, law librarians, judicial assistants and other legally-trained people responded to our call to put the new system through its paces. We moved quickly to build in the improvements demanded by our testers.
But here's where it gets REALLY exciting!!
On May 4th, we announced a new partnerships with international legal information providers vLex and Justia, each fantastic innovators and long-time legal technology pioneers. Together, we are building 3 new, leading-edge legal information platforms that capture the best of the former Maritime Law Book, the incredibly valuable feedback from our Compass testing group, as well as world-leading research tools. The exciting is building and our efforts have already been featured as Canada's contribution to "the golden age of legal research innovation"!
